Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University in partnership with Cranfield University and Rothamsted Research (UK) has rolled out an initiative that will provide nine fully-funded PhD studentships vital for building capacity in African agricultural research.
The doctorate scheme will benefit scientists from all African countries who are based on the continent as well non-Africans doing exceptional research work in Africa.
An ideal applicant should have a first class or a 2.1 UK honours degree or equivalent in Agricultural Sciences, Geography, Soil Science, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Environmental Science, Botany, Genetics, Geographical Information System or other related subjects, and a minimum of English language proficiency (IELTS overall minimum score of 6.5).
Successful applicants will be fully-funded through the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, Morocco.
Funding will provide tuition fees, a stipend of 17,000 Pounds-tax free, travel costs and generous research costs for four years, says an advertisement carried by the Regional Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM).
Priority will be given to nationals or legal residents of African countries who can clearly demonstrate their experience and potential to contribute to capacity building in agricultural research.
However, exceptional applications from students from other countries will be considered by the panel, if they meet the criteria for the scholarships.
The deadline for application is 5 May.
