21 African Scientists to Receive Grants for Climate-related Studies.



The Climate Research for Development (CR4D) programme will support environmental change research work in Africa awarding twenty-one researchers $170,000 each for the various projects.

Beneficiaries are drawn from Cameroon, Benin, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Namibia, Senegal, Uganda, Uganda and Zimbabwe, and their research will focus on climate science, as well as its applications and implications in the political sphere.

Other sectors to be focused on include development and decision-making at the community level, and with a view to utilizing information is a key element in decision-making.

The activity will give African decision makers the correct data to grow better environment protection policies.

According to Nelson Torto, the Director General of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS), said that the academy is part of the project works on a long-term basis for scientific excellence in Africa and ensures that researchers at the beginning of their careers are supported to achieve and maintain excellence in their respective fields.

The CR4D is an African-led initiative supported by the partnership between the African Climate Policy Center (ACPC) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology (AMCOMET), World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS).
