African Academy of Sciences Opens Nominations for 2024 Fellowship, Honoring Top Scientists

The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) has announced the opening of nominations for its prestigious 2024 Fellowship, recognizing outstanding contributions to science across Africa and beyond. The Fellowship, one of the highest honours for African and African-born scientists, celebrates excellence in scientific research, innovation, leadership, and policy development.

Nominations are open in three categories—Fellows, Associate Fellows, and Honorary Fellows—spanning ten scientific clusters, including Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Medical Sciences, and Policy Sciences. The AAS encourages nominations of female scientists and scholars from underrepresented fields to promote diversity in science.

Candidates will undergo a rigorous peer review process, with evaluation criteria including publication records, leadership roles, and contributions to policy. Specific qualifications, such as holding a PhD for at least 10 years and having an H-index of 20 or above, are required for Fellowship candidates.

The AAS has placed a special emphasis on the inclusion of social scientists, with adjusted criteria to account for publishing differences in this discipline.

Nominations are open until September 30, 2024.
