China-Africa Joint Research Center Launched in Zimbabwe to Boost Academic Collaboration

The China-Africa Joint Research Center for Exchanges and Mutual Learning between Civilizations was officially inaugurated in Zimbabwe, marking a significant milestone in academic and cultural cooperation between China and Africa. The centre, a joint initiative by Renmin University of China and the University of Zimbabwe, is set to become a key hub for intellectual exchange, innovative research, and cultural diplomacy.

The launch coincided with the inaugural China-Africa Civilization Forum, bringing together academics and policymakers from both regions. The centre's mission is to promote cross-cultural dialogue and drive impactful research aimed at strengthening the ties between China and African nations while deepening mutual understanding of civilizations.

University of Zimbabwe Vice Chancellor, Paul Mapfumo, highlighted the practical advantages of this collaboration. “This centre allows us to leverage our partnership with Renmin University to develop joint research projects focused on innovation and industrialization,” he stated, emphasizing the role of China’s investment in education, scholarships, and technology in enhancing Zimbabwe's human capital development.

In addition to academic pursuits, the centre will act as a platform for fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. “We aim to cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit and support student-led initiatives to address societal challenges,” Mapfumo added, reinforcing Zimbabwe's dedication to heritage-based education.

Zhang Donggang, Chairman of Renmin University's University Council, and Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding, underscored the significance of cultural and educational exchanges in the modernization efforts of both nations. The centre is expected to produce cutting-edge research and strengthen long-term academic ties between China and Africa.
