Zetech University and Rhodes University Secure Grant to Advance AI in Education and Research

Zetech University, Kenya, in partnership with Rhodes University in South Africa, has been awarded the prestigious Knowledge Interchange & Collaboration (KIC) grant by South Africa’s National Research Foundation. This groundbreaking initiative aims to explore the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into teaching and research, marking a significant step toward revolutionizing education across both institutions.

The collaborative research will focus on how AI technologies can enhance educational outcomes for students and faculty. Key areas of investigation include evaluating the practical applications of AI in teaching methodologies and examining its academic credibility as a tool to improve learning experiences and research efficiency.

Prof. Alice Njuguna, Zetech University’s Vice Chancellor for Academics, Research & Student Affairs, expressed excitement about the project. “This research will play a pivotal role in advancing our ability to incorporate AI into education, ensuring our programs remain relevant and competitive in today’s global landscape,” she noted.

Prof. Njuguna emphasized the alignment of this research with Zetech University’s vision for innovation and research excellence. By partnering with Rhodes University, Zetech demonstrates its commitment to leveraging global collaborations to tackle emerging challenges through evidence-based solutions. “This cross-border partnership highlights our dedication to addressing educational needs with advanced research initiatives,” she added.

The partnership comes at a time when AI is transforming industries worldwide, making it essential for academic institutions to prepare graduates for a tech-driven future. “As AI continues to reshape various sectors, higher education must lead the charge in equipping students with the skills to drive innovation,” Prof. Njuguna explained.

Zetech University recently introduced postgraduate programs in Computer Science and Information Technology, in collaboration with global technology leaders such as Microsoft ADC and the International Association of Science Parks (IASP). These initiatives aim to develop tech-savvy graduates and foster research-driven innovations in the region.

The KIC grant will enable both universities to contribute significantly to advancing AI education in Africa. The research outcomes are expected to influence policy and practice, creating more inclusive and technologically advanced learning environments across the continent.

This collaboration underscores the critical role of innovation in education and sets a benchmark for how African universities can lead in the integration of cutting-edge technologies. As Zetech and Rhodes Universities move forward, their efforts promise to transform not only their institutions but also the broader landscape of higher education in Africa.
