The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has announced a call for research papers for the 2025 edition of its flagship policy journal, Contemporary Issues in African Trade and Trade Finance (CIAT). Now in its 10th volume, the journal aims to publish high-impact research addressing critical economic challenges and opportunities in African trade, finance, and economic development.
Afreximbank’s research division highlights CIAT as a key platform for scholars, policymakers, and financial experts to present analyses and policy recommendations that can shape Africa’s economic future. The journal invites both technical and non-technical papers, particularly in areas such as trade finance, trade facilitation, and economic reforms.
A notable feature of the 2025 edition is a special issue on Reforming African and Global Financial Architecture. This section will explore crucial themes, including the role of African Multilateral Financial Institutions and the use of Preferred Creditor Status (PCS), focusing on how Africa can enhance its financial resilience amid shifting global economic dynamics.
Beyond this, CIAT welcomes research on contemporary trade challenges, policy interventions, and strategies to improve Africa’s trade competitiveness in an interconnected world. The journal features expert analyses, conference papers, and studies presented during Afreximbank’s Knowledge Sharing Sessions.
Interested authors are encouraged to submit research articles between 3,000 and 5,000 words electronically. The submission deadline is June 30, 2025.
As Africa navigates an evolving global trade and finance landscape, Afreximbank’s CIAT journal remains a valuable resource for shaping policies, fostering trade growth, and driving sustainable economic development.
This call for papers presents a unique opportunity for African scholars and trade experts to contribute to the discourse on trade and finance, influencing policies that will define the continent’s economic trajectory.
