The Southern African Quality Assurance Network (SAQAN) has officially launched the SAQAN Journal for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, a groundbreaking publication aimed at elevating quality assurance practices across Southern Africa and beyond. Developed in partnership with the University of Johannesburg and the Council on Higher Education, the journal seeks to establish quality assurance as a key academic and professional field across the African continent.
Designed as a platform for researchers and practitioners in quality assurance, the journal will facilitate the exchange of best practices and innovative ideas to strengthen higher education systems. A key objective is to promote international recognition of African qualifications, improving mobility for students and academic staff within the region and globally.
SAQAN's initiative aligns with its broader mission to enhance higher education quality through capacity building, research, and harmonizing quality assurance frameworks across its member countries. These include Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zambia, Namibia, South Africa, and Malawi.
In addition to serving Southern African nations, the journal seeks contributions from global stakeholders and quality assurance experts, creating an interconnected network of professionals dedicated to advancing higher education standards. This initiative also supports Africa’s broader ambition to harmonize qualifications across the continent, ultimately contributing to a more integrated higher education system.
Recognizing that not all quality assurance professionals have extensive writing experience, the SAQAN Journal will offer writing support to contributors to maintain high submission standards. This commitment ensures that the journal will feature a wide array of high-quality content, ranging from full-length research articles to professional notes and reviews.
Submissions are now open, and all contributions will undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process, guaranteeing both originality and scholarly excellence.
This new journal represents a significant step forward in improving the quality and global competitiveness of higher education in Southern Africa, providing a critical platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration across the region and beyond.
